Omphalitis (syndrome)

Generic name for any inflammation of the umbilicus.
A type of intertrigo.

  • Non-infectious
    • Since it is a type of intertrigo, the general causes of intertrigo
      • Psoriasis, seborrheic dermatitis
    • Pemphigus vulgaris
    • Pemphigoid gravidarum (Polymorphic eruption of pregnancy (PEP) spares the umbilicus)
    • Crohn’s disease
    • Intestinal choristia
    • Piercing
    • Contact allergy to nickel
    • Pyoderma gangrenosum after surgery with laparoscopy technique
  • Infectious
    • Scabies
    • candidiasis
    • Bilharzia (Schistosoma)
    • Bacterial (only if poor hygiente)
      • Staphylococcus aureus
      • Pseudomonas aeruginosa
      • Tetanus
