Tinea Manuum

  • Dorsal hand - classic “ringworm”
  • Palmar hand - dry, scaly/keratotic form
    • Looks like they have chalk on their hands
    • Frequent hand washing with irritant contact dermatitis predisposes patients to tinea manuum because destruction of skin barrier
  • Typically have 2 hands and 1 foot or vice versa affected in keratotic type
  • Nails often affected
  • Orals typically needed, recurrence frequent
  • Tip: tinea of the hand doen’t exist without tinea of the feet
