Cutaneous Metastases

  • 0,7-9% of all patients with cancer
  • 2% of all skin tumors
  • In 22% of cases cutaneous metastases can lead to the diagnosis of an internal malignancy
  • Most patients are older than 60 yo
  • Usually asymptomatic shiny dome-shaped nodules
    • In scalp may have alopecia - alopecia neoplastica
    • New red to purple nodules in an adult should prompt suspicion of a metastases instead of a benign tumor
  • Primary malignancies with cutaneous metastases
    • Men: melanoma (32%)>SCC head and neck (16,5%)> Lung (12%) > Colorectal (11%)
    • Women: melanoma (70%) > breast (12%)
    • Men+Women: melanoma, breast, SCC of head and neck, colorectal, lung
  • Locations
    • Breast - Throracic
      • Eyelid and nose if face affected
    • Prostate - suprapubic region
    • Renal cell - upper trunk > scalp > limbs
    • Nails
      • Fingers - lung
      • Toes - genitourinary
