Eritemas

Erithema is characterized by a change in skin color due to the dilation of blood vessels
  • Pink to violaceous depending upon involvement of arteries or veins
 
4 major types
  • Diffuse (e.g. scarlet fever)
    • Morbiliformes → sarampo, mononucleose, toxidermia
    • Roseoliformes → roseola sifilitica, exantema súbito, roseola medicamentosa
    • Escarlatiniformes → escarlatina, erupção medicamentosa
    • Eritrodermia

  • Regional (e.g. palmar erythema; erysipelas)
  • Reticulated (e.g. PAN)
 
Erythemas of venous origin may be secondary to:
  • Abnormal function of arteriovenous communications (e.g. angiodyskinesia)
