Tricholemmal carcinoma

AKA squamous cell carcinoma with tricholemmal keratinization
 
Histologia
  • Clear, polygonal appearance of the tumor cells, which are loaded with glycogen and often have a cylindrical, palisade-like appearance at the periphery, similar to the outermost cells of the follicular sheath (tricholemm)
  • Non-epidermoid keratinization is reminiscent of the isthmic segment of the hair follicle
  • Cytologic signs of high malignancy
 
Prognosis
  • Rarely recur or metastasize after radical excision
